From 13–25 August, we're joining forces to clean up our local surrondings.

We encourage residents and businesses to join in and help make our surroundings cleaner and more welcoming. You can take part by picking up litter, tidying up vegetation, cleaning up around homes and properties, or removing old items and equipment.
Together, we can make a big difference! 🌱

Time to clear out what you no longer need

Additional waste containers will be available at the recycling point in Hvolsvöllur during the clean-up campaign. This is a great opportunity to get rid of bulky waste that may have been lying around. Further details and practical information will be announced in the coming days.

As before, garden waste can be taken to Miðalda, north of Hallgerðartún.

Miðalda, disposal of garden waste

🚗 Direction to the garden waste disposal site
Drive north along Nýbýlavegur, past Hallgerðartún. At the end of the built-up area, turn left onto the unmarked road.
Follow the road and continue straight when the paved section ends. Then turn left, followed by a right turn.

Continue along the gravel road beside the field until you reach the garden waste disposal site at Miðalda.

🔥 Let’s clean up – and then fire up the grill!

The clean-up and beautification campaign isn’t just about tidying up – it’s also about bringing people together and having a good time.

We encourage neighbours to organise a street barbecue, get together and enjoy each other’s company. And with the Kjötsúpuhátíð festival just around the corner, it’s the perfect opportunity to start planning your street decorations!

The municipality will support street barbecues with a grant, which you can apply for here:

Rural areas

This autumn, we plan to offer additional clean-up services in rural areas, as in previous years. Further information will be provided later.

📸 Let’s show what we can achieve together! We encourage everyone to share the results – and the good spirit along the way.
